Associate Degree for Transfer Program (ADT)

The Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440/Padilla) established the Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT) for California Community College students and is designed to provide a clear pathway to a degree at the CSU. An ADT allows students to complete an associate degree while satisfying lower-division general education and major requirements for transfer at the same time.

Please Note: The Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T/AS-T) degrees are different from other Associate degrees (AA/AS) offered by the California Community Colleges. Students can visit the CSU website for more information on ADT programs.

An Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) is an umbrella term that houses two different degrees in multiple subjects. Students can earn either an Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T) and/or an Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T) in specific pathways. Earning an ADT guarantees a student admission into a CSU campus as long as they meet the minimum CSU requirements.

Please note: Earning an ADT does not guarantee admission into Cal Poly Pomona.

Students admitted to CPP with a verified Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) that is deemed similar to the major they were admitted into, will be invited to participate in the California Promise Program. This program will allow students to finish their bachelor’s degree in two years by taking 30-semester units per academic year. To get more information about eligibility requirements please visit our California Promise Program webpage.

Cal Poly Pomona receives more qualified applicants than we can accommodate, therefore students with a similar ADT will receive additional consideration during the admission process. Students are required to declare a major when submitting an application. The following criteria must be met for CPP to be able to utilize an ADT in the admission process:

  • The student must be pursuing an approved Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) at a California Community College.
  • The Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) must be deemed ‘similar’ to a corresponding major program at CPP.
  • You must apply to that corresponding major at CPP when filling out the Cal State Apply application.
  • The Community College must verify that you are on-track to complete the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), via an electronic process, prior to the term you are admitted into.
    • All admission requirements must be met, and the ADT must be granted no later than the prior Spring term in order to utilize its benefits, for Fall admission.
    • All admission requirements must be met, and the ADT must be granted no later than the prior Summer term in order to utilize its benefits, for Spring admission.

If a student successfully meets these requirements the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) curriculum is used in lieu of requirements listed in our Supplemental requirements (for impacted majors only) and students will get a GPA bump as mentioned above.

An Associate Degree for Transfer is not an admissions requirement.

Applicants must submit verification that they have or are finishing the remaining requirements for the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) by the stated admission term’s Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) completion deadline.

For this verification to be accomplished, the California Community Colleges have established a priority schedule for Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) eligible students.

  • Students are asked to submit their “petition to graduate” with an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) at the community college they are attending.
  • The community college will confirm applicant eligibility for the ADT directly with the CSU via an online e-Verify portal.
  • A final transcript showing the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) awarded and must be submitted to the Admissions office.

Students who have completed an approved Associate Degree for Transfer deemed ‘similar’ to their CPP major are eligible to graduate in 60 units.

The 60-unit graduation option will not be possible if the student changes majors or elects to add any additional degree objective, such as a second major or minor.
