Program Model

Summer Bridge (SB) is a structured program where typically from 8:00am- 9:00pm students are engaging in many different components to learn more about campus culture, resources, connect with peer mentors and staff. Furthermore, it is divided into a Residential Component and  a Commuter Component to best assist participants in getting exposed to what it is like to both live and commute to campus.

Why does the program model change during week 3? We recognize not all of our SB participants will be living on campus during the academic year, so exposure to commuting during the summer has many benefits as it allows participants to plan ahead prior to the fall term on what committing or taking public transportation will look like.

Special Circumstance: In addition, we may have students interested in participating in SB, but may live out of the local area, thus in the application students can share factors that can impact them from going home for the weekend or commuting during the last week of the program. Students with these special circumstances may submit a request for Weekend Stayover or Extended Stay.

Note: There are limited resources and not all students who request Weekend Stayover or Extended Stay will be approved, so please be as detailed in the SB application so staff can best address your needs.

Note: Our program is a closed program, meaning that no guest(s) are allowed during all 3-weeks, except during the check-in and check-out time frames or with prior professional staff approval. These details are shared within the Summer Bridge Information Module.
