Congratulations to the 2017-2018 Paula Sandoval Recipients

Our two scholarship recipients are Christopher J. Anzalone and Mary S. McNew graduate students in the Psychology & Sociology Department. Our recipients were recognized for their perseverance to get to and through graduate school during our Graduate Students Welcome Event 2018.

About the Recipients

Christopher will graduate in 2019 with a Master’s Degree in Psychology to become a Marriage and Family Therapist with plans to eventually obtain a PHD. He hopes to support people with significant mental illness with a focus on adults and families that have experienced significant trauma. He will work in Community Mental Health settings, with the intention of helping diverse populations that are historically unserved and underserved. His long term goal is to have a private practice in addition to his work in Community settings.

Mary is also a graduate student in the M.S. in Psychology program. Mary would like to pursue her MFT license to become a therapist. She is currently interning at a community agency and helping homeless veterans. Her father was a veteran, and she comes from a military family. She would like to continue to work with veterans who suffer from PTSD, as well as depression, anxiety, and other traumas. She would also like to work with children who have experienced trauma in their lives.
