Coding with Finch Robot
The Finch is a hands-on, programmable robot that will integrate creativity and critical thinking with coding. Students will use MakeCode to make their Finch Robot move, turn, and even draw shapes. Equipped with LEDs and a distance sensor, this robot will light up and avoid obstacles. All students will have a solid foundation in programming skills, but coding challenges will adjust for the various grade levels.
Classroom Materials: The Finch Robot is best done as a 1:1 ratio of student to robot. The College of the Extended University will loan your group a classroom set of Finch Robots, markers, tape, and white butcher paper to use throughout the summer residential program. The lead STEM instructor and the Cal Poly Pomona Classroom Aide will be responsible for ensuring that the robots are properly taken care of in the classroom and stored appropriately from day-to-day. Upon completion of the program, your group will return all Finch Robots to the College of the Extended University in good condition. Additional fees will be charged to your group for missing or damaged robots.
Be sure to check out the Student Life section for information on recreational and social activities, housing, dining and other summer residential program details.
