Research Scholars Programs

McNair Scholars Program. The CPP McNair Scholars Program prepares eligible undergraduate students for PhD programs by promoting student success through undergraduate research, faculty mentorship, and a series of skill building workshops. The program aims to increase the number of first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students in PhD programs, and eventually, to increase diversity among faculty at higher education institutions across the country. For more information about the program visit the program website

Benefits of the program: 
  • Grad school prep 
  • Conduct research and work with a faculty member 
  • Receive a stipend of up to $2500 upon completion of program requirements 
Eligibility Criteria 
  • a low-income and first generation or underrepresented student 
  • GPA 3.0 or higher 
  • Sophomore or Junior

CSU Pre-Doctoral Program (Sally Casanova Award). The program is intended to increase the pool of future CSU faculty by providing opportunities and funding for graduate degrees (masters or doctoral).  The CSU Chancellor's Office selects students from each CSU campus to be Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholars. Pre-Doctoral scholars are eligible for paid summer research internships and access to special meetings with graduate school recruiters.
