Academic Conferences

What is a conference? A conference brings together scholars, professionals, and students from different geographical areas. Conference meetings provide a valuable opportunity for researchers to stay connected to others in their field and learn about cutting-edge scholarship. Conferences are scheduled to meet once a year. Currently, the majority of conferences take place virtually. For undergraduate students, conference meetings are a great way to meet new people in your field and explore areas of academic and professional interests outside a classroom setting.

What are the benefits of a conference? Attending a conference provides an opportunity to meet established scholars and professionals, as well as student researchers from other universities/colleges. Listening to talks, presentations, or workshops can open up new ways of thinking about a particular topic or give you a new research idea. By listening to presentations, you will learn from other researchers and expand your knowledge about your field/major. Students also have an opportunity to ask questions and connect with scholars and professionals at these meetings.

Another great way to participate in conferences and network with scholars, professionals, and other students is to present your research or faculty-student project. Various conferences offer poster and paper sessions for students to present their research. To find out more about how to attend or present at a conference, contact AKD: alphakappadeltacpp@gmail.com or Dr. Plickert: gplickert@cpp.edu. Check the tabs below for information about previous student presenters and details about the annual conference meetings.

The Pacific Sociological Association serves sociologists in our region–faculty, applied professionals, and students—by providing opportunities for networking and professional development designed to advance scholarly research, promote high-quality teaching and mentorship, and encourage applied sociology for the public good. The Association strives to create a professional community that reflects the diversity of our region and enhances the diversity of the discipline.
