Brief Description of the Organization: Asian Youth Center (AYC) is a community-based non-profit organization whose mission is to empower low- income, immigrant, and at-risk youth, of all communities, to overcome barriers to success through the provision of culturally and linguistically competent education, employment, and social services. We help youth succeed in school, at work, and in life!

No of interns each semester: 5-10 students

Process and Requirements for Internship: TB test, LiveScan Background Check, Completion of Volunteer Intake Form, and Commitment to regular volunteer schedule.

Brief Description of the Organization: Shadowing case managers in the Chino district who deal with children, elderly, and domestic violence survivors.

Number of Interns each semester: One or two.

Brief Description of the Organization: Volunteer tutors are positive role models who provide consistency and educational assistance to a child through weekly one- on-one tutoring.

Brief Description of the Organization: Foothill Family Shelter is a nonprofit organization which houses homeless families with children for a period of up to 120 days, free of rent and utility charges.

Number of interns each semester: Varies. Average range is 2-4 per semester. Process and Requirements for Internship (e.g., TB test, interview, reference letters, etc.): Application process. Prospective interns must also attend a new volunteer orientation. They must be interviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator where class requirements are discussed. We also ask for a resume and letters of recommendation when applicable. Not all applicants are a fit for the organization and following these procedures does not mean the student will be granted the internship.

Brief Description of the Organization: Generation Her is a non-profit organization operating in Southern California, that seeks to empower teenage mothers, ages 13-23, and their children by connecting them to a supportive community of other teen mothers and adult mentors, equipping them with desired life skills, and, ultimately, impacting their future in a positive way.

Process and Requirements for Internship: Experience with children birth-5 years old, completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field, pass a background check, understanding of the basic principles of children’s learning environments and programs, must be computer literate, patience in working with at risk youth and children in a high stress environment that can be chaotic and loud at times.

Brief Description of the Organization: The goal of the program is to provide compressive support to students who aren't working at grade level, leading to improved performance and academic success. All students at the school site benefit from the support of organized collaborative games and conflict resolution during activities.

Brief Description of the Organization: Volunteers offer supportive care through things like friendship, reading, taking their patient(s) out on a "walk" in their wheelchair, listening to them tell their life stories, or many times by simply being a calm and caring presence.

Brief Description of the Organization:  Volunteer Interns will work in numerous areas of the department, such as Detective Bureau, Community Activist Policing Bureau, Patrol and other areas to gain a full understanding of municipal law enforcement.

Brief Description of the Organization: Our volunteers work with advocates doing community outreach in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles, assist our legal staff at Self-Help Clinics at the Los Angeles Superior Court, and support administrative staff in our offices.

Brief Description of the Organization: Pomona Hope is a non-profit, faith-based, community organization dedicated to working in partnership with people of all backgrounds to strengthen Pomona’s children, families, and neighborhoods. After School with Pomona Hope welcomes kindergarteners through twelfth graders.  We are dedicated to working alongside parents and community members on behalf of Pomona’s youth.  It is our aim to provide resources and a safe, affirming environment to empower youth to grow and learn

Brief Description of the Organization: PSFS is a non-profit rape crisis and child abuse agency. Students provide crisis intervention over the phone and in-person support at hospitals, law enforcement stations, and/or court.

Number of Interns each semester: Unlimited (must commit to 1 year)

Brief Description of the Organization: Studio Claremont is a children’s art studio that focuses on creating a warm and welcoming space for children, ages 4-18. We want all students to feel the studio is their safe space to be creative and experience growth. We teach all mediums of art along with art history and the elements and principles of design.

Brief Description of the Organization: Hospice agency that provides healthcare, mental health, spiritual care to terminally ill patients that have 6 months or less to live.

Number of Interns each semester: 4 to 6, it varies

Process and Requirements for Internship (e.g., TB test, interview, reference letter, etc.): Application, Background check, TB test, 2 references, mandatory training

Brief Description of the Organization: The Youth Activity Center (YAC) is a service center for high school teens. They can drop-in after school for a game of pool, Ping-Pong or foosball, to listen to music, work on art projects, or just to sit and talk with peers and staff. The YAC also provides free workshops and classes, peer support groups, aggression management programs, and informational services.

Process and Requirements for Internship (e.g., TB test, interview, reference letter, etc.): Live Scanned Fingerprints, and get a photo ID from personnel department.

Brief Description of the Organization: The Mt. SAC School of Continuing Education (SCE) offers low and no-cost programs to adults and youth for life improvement, college preparation, or career advancement. Mt. SAC’s School of Continuing Education Adults with Disabilities IMPACT Program provides education for adults with intellectual disabilities (ID) and other developmental disabilities (DD).

Brief Description of the Organization: Adult Day Health Care Program - We provide services to seniors to prevent them from hospitalization and help them to stay active in the community.

Brief Description of the Organization: Cal Poly Pomona's Renaissance Scholars is a comprehensive support program located in the Division of Student Affairs that empowers former foster youth through higher education. The program meets the needs of students by providing workshops, mentoring, tutoring, academic advising, life skills seminars, year-round housing, financial assistance, educational enrichment and community building activities.

Brief Description of the Organization: The Women's Resource Center provides programs, workshops, referrals, group support and opportunities for personal and academic growth. The WRC creates an environment where women-identified individuals can flourish while advocating for a greater understanding of the impact of gender in our institution and in our society.
