Strategic Plan 2024
2017-2023 CLASS Strategic Plan Report
Draft December 5, 2023
In 2017-2018, the faculty, staff, and students of CLASS engaged in a comprehensive process for creating a strategic plan. Through listening sessions and other opportunities to contribute, the Strategic Planning Committee drafted a plan that outlined the priorities of the College as a series of goals, outcomes and strategies. This group described desired outcomes related to those goals and created strategies by which to achieve these goals and metrics for assessing implementation of these strategies. As we begin the process of creating a new strategic plan to close out this decade, it is important to honor the work and optimism that went into the current strategic plan.
As with all aspects of our lives, the implementation of this Strategic Plan was interrupted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. In retrospect, the degree to which our daily lives were fundamentally altered by that time seems surreal. For many of use, seeing empty store shelves, being confined to our homes, and the resulting societal fraying that occurred as a result of the various stay-at-home orders were shocking. On top of that, fundamental social justice problems, that have always been present in our society, came to the fore. Despite all of that, CLASS continued to move forward and find ways to better serve our students and our staff and faculty colleagues.
From this foundation, we may find new articulations of the goals, new strategies by which to pursue them, and set new goals entirely.
Strategic plans are always intended as living documents and guides to the path forward. They are designed to remind us of our purpose and goals when external challenges arise. Thus, despite changes in leadership and disruption of daily lives, the CLASS Strategic Plan continued to serve as a guide for decision-making and resource allocation. Of course, as a result of the pandemic, some strategies could not be implemented. As a result of new and renewed commitments to social justices, new goals emerged. This report provides an overview of where the Strategic Plan provided guidance and accomplishments. From this foundation, we may find new articulations of the goals, new strategies by which to pursue them, and set new goals entirely.
Thank you to the Sara Langford, the Student Success Committee, the Learning, Teaching, and Assessment Committee, Associate Dean Brianne Davila, and Associate Dean David Horner for their contributions to this report.
Kind regards,
