International Paris Summer Study Abroad Program
This course is taught and coordinated by faculty in the Landscape Architecture Department. The core content of the course involves a collaboration with the Parisian landscape studio Coloco on the renovation of Parc des Olympiades, a park in an eastern suburb of Paris called Val de Fontenay. Students will work on hands-on projects designing and building outdoor furniture, creating upcycled sculptures, painting, planting, composting etc. The studio will include community engagement sessions with high school students in the neighborhood, workshops with artists and tours/lectures with professionals affiliated with the project. The park is part of a large-scale urban development happening in Val de Fontenay which will be home to one of the new train stations situated along the new Grand Paris Express train network, the largest infrastructure project currently underway in France. Daily excursions to parks, elevated green belts, canals and bridges within the city of Paris will provide context for the work in Val de Fontenay and the surrounding region.
