African American Vocal Ensemble
The African American Vocal Ensemble, Cal Poly Pomona's vocal jazz a cappella ensemble, is an auditioned group of 8-12 singers. Members are auditioned by the director prior to or on the first day of class. Musicianship skills such as sight-singing and excellent intonation are required. This ensemble performs at multiple concerts and local festivals throughout the year. The stylistic focus is on current a cappella arrangements and vocal jazz from all eras. Members of the group are welcome to contribute their own arrangements or transcriptions for the group to perform.
Membership in the group is by audition only. Auditions take place in the first week of classes; be prepared to sing a jazz standard of your choice (with a track, a capella or self-accompanied). Please e-mail the director for more information.
