Hire A Musician

The Cal Poly Pomona Music Department offers a diverse pool of talented musicians, and ensembles available to perform at your campus events.

Whether you need live music for a campus function, special event, or assistance with arranging or transcribing, we can connect you with skilled musicians who are ready to bring your event to life.

By hiring our musicians, you will receive excellent value while supporting emerging artists and on-campus programs.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Submit the Hire A Musician Form

    • Submit the form at least 4 weeks prior to your event date.
    • For large ensembles (10+ performers), the form must be submitted at least 6 weeks in advance.

  2. Connect with Musicians

    • The Music Department will contact you to help connect you with musicians or ensemble directors based on your request.

  3. Complete Required Documentation

    • Finalize the Scope of Work & Payment Agreement form.

  4. Prepare Payment

    • Ensure payment is ready at the time of service. Musicians reserve the right to cancel if payment is not provided. No musician or ensemble, student or otherwise, will perform without payment.

  5. Enjoy Your Elevated Event

    • Experience your event with the added talent of our skilled musicians.

All musicians are current CPP Music Department ensembles, students, or recent graduates who have remained in the area. All students on the list are of professional caliber and have been pre-approved by the Music Department.

Please complete the Hire A Musician Form at least 6 weeks before your event date to secure one of our talented ensembles.

Please note that requests for large ensembles submitted within 5 weeks of the event date may not be accommodated.

Student groups may be hired at the following rates:
  • For student groups of under 10 people:
    • $100 per musician for the first hour
    • $75 per musician for each additional hour
    • Overtime:
      • Musicians may, at their discretion, agree to work longer than initially scheduled.
      • If so, they will charge $18.75 per musician per additional 15 minutes (rounded up).
  • For large student ensembles (over 10 people):
    • Please contact the ensemble directors to negotiate a price.
    • Expect fees to be around $1500-2500 depending on the length and logistics of the event.
  • For faculty ensembles, please contact and negotiate directly with them.
Please note:
In all cases, payment is expected at the time of service or musicians reserve the right to cancel immediately. No musician or ensemble, student or otherwise, will play without payment.
