Music Industry Studies Scholarship Auditions
Scholarship Auditions for Incoming Students typically take place on the first Saturday of February.
Although an audition is not required to be accepted into the Music Industry Studies program, incoming students that wish to be considered for scholarship opportunities do need to audition. All auditions, live or recorded, are 5 -10 minutes long. Be prepared to present the following:
1. Scales/Etudes
Instrumentalists – two-octave major scales in different registers.
Vocalists – one-octave major scale (ascending and descending) in a comfortable range. Percussionists that do not play mallets must perform one solo
or etude.
2. Two contrasting musical works of your choosing (one that demonstrates technical facility and one that is more lyrical in character).
Past examples have included:
- An original song for piano and voice
- Original digital audio productions, with an accompanying description of the creator’s process a classical piece or etude
- An operatic aria
- A singer/pianist performance of a popular song
- A drumset performance
- An original singer-songwriter song for guitar and voice
- A fingerpicking tune
3. You will be asked to sing, in your comfortable range, the opening phrase of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star." (Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, How I wonder what you are.)
Online submission
For online submission, send a video YouTube link that satisfies the elements of the required audition materials (scales, performance pieces, singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”).
