Find Your Career at Future Forward

Get a head start in your career at the Veteran Resource Center’s annual Future Forward Career and Resource Fair event on Friday, November 4. Cal Poly Pomona military affiliated students can network with hiring managers, gain insight on becoming an entrepreneur, connect with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and learn about furthering their education goals.

Jamie Orozco (’22, electronic systems engineering technology) attended the 2019 Future Forward event where he handed his resume to a Northrop Grumman recruiter and received an internship offer a week later. Orozco completed two summer internships as a mission assurance engineer and quality assurance engineer intern.

“The internship was the biggest step to advance myself,” said Orozco, who served four years in the Marines as a Diesel Mechanic. (Read more on Orozco’s story here)

This year’s event will be held in-person, the first time since 2019. At Future Forward, students and guests will hear from President Soraya Coley and keynote speakers before networking with participating organizations. Previous years have featured employers including:

  • Defense contractors Boeing, Raytheon Technologies, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin.
  • Federal government employers included U.S. Department of Agriculture, Federal Bureau of Investigations and U.S. Secret Service.
  • Local employers included Tri-City Mental Health, Enterprise Holdings, Vulcan, and Turner Construction.

In addition to employers, resources such as Veterans Affairs MyHealth, the U.S. Small Business Association, CPP college advisors and Bronco Cares have also participated.

To help students prepare for Future Forward, the Veterans Resource Center will offer a series of career-readiness workshops, which will consist of resume advising and mock interviewing that will help students understand the importance of having a well-written resume and gain interviewing etiquette and techniques. The events will take place on the following dates:

  • September 13 & 14: Resume Advising
  • October 18: VRC Mock Interviews Workshop
  • November 4: Future Forward

Students will receive emails with instructions on how to register for all three events once registrations are open. For more information about Future Forward, the Resume Advising Workshop or the Mock Interview Workshop, please contact the Veterans Resource Center at 909-869-6994.
