Veterans Resource Center

Veterans Benefits, Step 3

Step 3: Receiving your VA educational benefits

Within about one month of receiving your application, the VA will send you a Certificate of Eligibility. Submit this letter to the Veterans Resource Center at vetquestions@cpp.edu or to Elke Azpeitia, VA Certifying Official, at emazpeitia@cpp.edu. They will help you to complete the remaining forms needed for semester certification.

It is important to know that the certification of your benefits cannot be completed until you have finalized your course registration. Register for your courses as soon as possible so you do not experience a delay in receiving your fees. If your VA benefits have been certified, please note that your tuition and fees payment will be deferred until the university receives payment from the VA.

Required verification of enrollment

Veterans receiving benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill® (Chapter 1606) are required to verify their enrollment monthly through Web Automated Verification of Enrollment for Veterans and report any enrollment changes to the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).  WAVE allows you to update your direct deposit information and tells you if your benefits have been processed, and whether your verifications have been entered.

Recipients of the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) are required to verify their enrollment monthly in order to continue to receive their monthly housing allowance.  If a student fails to verify their enrollment status for two consecutive months, the VA will withhold monthly housing allowance payments until the student has verified their enrollment.  To setup monthly enrollment verification, Chapter 33 recipients should contact the GI Bill® Hotline (Education Call Center) at 1-888-442-4551.
