Mathematics, B.S. - Applied Mathematics/Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a flexible major program which may be adapted to serve a variety of needs and interests. The Applied Mathematics / Statistics option is designed to provide for students interested in employment in many sectors of industry and government, and for students interested in graduate study in applied mathematics or statistics.
Mathematics, B.S. - Secondary Teacher Preparation/Pure Mathematics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a flexible major program which may be adapted to serve a variety of needs and interests. The Secondary Teacher Preparation/Pure Mathematics option is designed to provide for students interested in employment in secondary education institutions and many sectors of industry and government, and for students interested in graduate study in mathematics education and pure mathematics.
Mathematics Minor
The Mathematics Minor is designed to allow students with an interest in all areas of mathematics to explore some upper division mathematics content.
Statistics Minor
The Statistics Minor is designed to allow students with an interest in statistics to explore some upper division statistics content.
Current Students
Students are urged to select electives to prepare for future career in industry or for graduate study. The Department recommends that each student use electives to develop depth in a discipline other than mathematics. To prepare for graduate study, courses at the 500-level are available as part of the Graduate Program.
Students majoring in mathematics and who have at least a 3.0 GPA may join the honorary society Kappa Mu Epsilon (KME) as well as the local chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM). Additional information can be obtained from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics.

Prospective Majors in Mathematics or Statistics
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers a flexible major program designed to serve a variety of needs and interests. A student may develop an academic program to prepare oneself for employment in industry, government, and education.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers bachelor's degrees with sub-plans/options in Secondary Teacher Preparation/Pure Math and Applied Mathematics/Statistics. Each option shares a collection of required core courses, required support courses, general education courses, and various optional courses. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required in core courses in order to receive a degree. Requirements for the optional courses depend on the chosen sub-plan/option. Transfer students should complete as many calculus courses as possible before attending Cal Poly Pomona. Physics courses to be transferred should require calculus concurrently or as a prerequisite.
A high school student planning to major mathematics should complete one year of physics, one year of chemistry, and four years of mathematics, including thorough preparation in trigonometry and algebra. Prospective Minors in Mathematics or Statistics
