JOB DESCRIPTION

Create a social media strategy for the student-run newspaper of Cal Poly Pomona. Our interns will audit, strategize, and create a broader social media plan to promote the readership of the multimedia newspaper in TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify.

This Internship is only for students of Cal Poly Pomona taking a course with Professor Denisse Vasquez, Ph.D.

This micro-internship opportunity will support two goals of the Communication Department and the overall Cal Poly Pomona community. First, we will support efforts and new-student recruitment strategies developed by the University, College, and Department. In this regard, a sustained social media strategy will allow us to showcase the meaningful work of faculty, students, and the signpost project of The Poly Post as a student-run newspaper that constitutes a truthful polytechnic teaching and learning experience. Consequently, prospective students will be able to learn more about the high-quality learning experience that CPP offers in communication in our Journalism major. Second, journalism students will be able to create social media content in a professional setting similar to the demand that professional journalists have to create multimedia reporting pieces that are suitable for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Spotify to better engage readers and other audiences.

This collaboration is tailored to a specific class: AMM4970L

Purpose: The purpose of this position is to support the Arabian Horse Center on Cal Poly Pomona Campus. Students will help increase awareness of the Arabian Horse Center activities on and off campus and create positive relationships with the visitors at the center.

• Task: Students will meet inside and outside of the class to discuss, plan, and execute:
• Strategic planning for the Arabian Horse Center - Sunday Horseshows event.
• Develop artwork catered toward the Arabian Horse Center
• Source/Produce new design merchandise for the Arabian Horse Center
• Develop marketing materials for Arabian Horse Center (digital and physical materials)

When: Spring 2024

Deliverable: Sunday Horse show related activities, new designs for Arabian Horse Center, marketing promotional materials.

Time & skills needed for this task:  

1. Retailing
2. Business planning
3. Photo/video editing skills will be needed to complete the task.
4. Additional trainings and feedback will be offered as needed to support students to perform their job responsibilities.

You will be interning at Motor Development Clinic at Cal Poly Pomona. Motor Development Clinic provides individualized exercise program. Your responsibility includes but is not limited to,

• Develop a lesson plan
• Implement lesson plans
• Implement behavior management plan
• Assist MDC teachers with their preparations and teaching
• Assist program operation
• Practice safety precautions
• Attend MDC staff meeting

You will be required to attend MDC orientations and complete background check with fingerprinting.

MDC program is alighted with Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization standards and prepares individuals with teaching professional opportunities.

Deliverable:

Involves the creation of maps of the tropics covered in the Biotrek Rainforest Learning Center – the Americas, Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Pacific islands.

• The maps will be dynamic story maps linked via QR codes in the Rainforest Learning Center on the Biotrek website.
• The Maps will highlight the species featured in the exhibit with information about their geographic range and ecological characteristics.
• All maps will be made using a template designed for the Biotrek mapping project.

Skills Needed:

1. Knowledge of ESRI Storymaps
2. Knowledge of biogeography
3. Availability to visit Rainbird Bio Trek Project
