Funded Opportunities

The Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence (CAFE), in collaboration with LOGRAR Project, is inviting applications for the last L-ETP Institute opportunity. The LOGRAR Project, funded by a Title V Dept. of Education grant, has the goal of significantly enhancing our graduate programs to better serve Hispanic students seeking graduate degrees.

Led by Dr. Ruth Ahn, Professor of Education and experienced leader of the past Academies, selected participants will engage in a highly interactive intensive two-day Winter Institute taking place on January 13 (M) & 14 (T), 2025 from 1:00 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. via Zoom to explore foundations of teaching and learning, student-centered pedagogy, and advanced learning skills. All participants will be expected to be fully engaged synchronously with both their camera and microphone on during these meetings for maximal learning. No recordings will be available.

The L-ETP Winter Institute will prepare novice graduate students without prior teaching or professional development experience to teach in higher education and other professional settings. The goal of the program is to support the participants’ success at Cal Poly Pomona and beyond.

This scholarship is for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education, the LOGRAR Project at Cal Poly Pomona is dedicated to supporting underrepresented and low-income graduate students attain postbaccalaureate degrees. The LOGRAR Project is managed by the Graduate Resource Center of Cal Poly Pomona. All CPP graduate students who meet eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply.

The $5,000 scholarship is awarded to the student’s Bronco portal to offset the expense of tuition. Students can only receive one $5,000 award during their graduate studies at Cal Poly Pomona.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen, permanent resident (Undocumented and international students are currently not eligible to apply)
• Master’s and Ed.D. students enrolled full-time (min. 6 units) at Cal Poly Pomona as of fall 2023
• Previous enrollment in current program of study for a minimum of one semester
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
• Demonstrated financial need as determined by the 2023-2024 FAFSA application (“financial need” is determined by a FAFSA Current EFC between $0- $5,846)

Required Application Materials:

1. Statement of Intent (1000 word max.) that demonstrates some of the following: Career Aspirations; Professional Experience; Qualifications, Reasons for choosing your field of study and how you plan to apply that knowledge practically; Extracurricular Activities; and, Achievements and extraordinary accomplishments. Candidates with a demonstrated commitment to serving underrepresented student groups are highly encouraged to apply.
2. Letter of Recommendation: We are no longer requesting letters of recommendation. When submitting your scholarship application, you will be asked to provide a faculty reference who will be prompted to answer a brief questionnaire that speaks to their familiarity with your work, etc.

Application Process/ Projected Timeline:

• October 1: Scholarship Application opens
• November 30 at 11:59 p.m. PST: Scholarship Application deadline
• December 2-December 20: Selection Committee Review Process
• End of December: Awarded Students Notified

Please note, applicants that meet the qualifications are not guaranteed a scholarship. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Please follow up with your recommender to submit their recommendations through the scholarship portal by the deadline. Awardees will receive a credit to their financial aid account; it is not a cash award. Selected students will be asked to submit a Thank You letter upon scholarship offer.
