Dr. Olive Li is a seasoned expert in Food Science & Engineering with over 25 years of experience across the USA, Canada, and China. Specializing in novel food ingredient delivery technologies for fortified and functional foods, Dr. Li combines a multidisciplinary background with extensive university-level teaching experience. Actively involved in scientific program assessments, manuscript reviews, and industrial consultations, Dr. Li aims to establish a regionally renowned research program in Functional Food Engineering at Cal Poly Pomona. Passionate about travel and a self-proclaimed foodie, Dr. Li has explored over 15 countries, savoring local cuisines along the way.

Maria Christiana “Nina” Marasigan is a Student Technician at SIIL. She is in her third year completing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Nina started as an ambassador helped train for sewing and embroidery. Her hobbies are sewing and generally trying new things. Nina made the slug at the maker studio.

Benjamin Villa is a Student Technician at SIIL. He is pursuing an bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering and is expected to graduate in 2026. Benjamin started by hanging out and meeting people, then became an ambassador after helping to establish a soldering and electronics station. Afterwards he was invited to become staff to help manage the space. Some of Benjamin’s interests include making robots. renewable energy and transportation, sustainability, adventure, and the pursuit of happiness.
