Professor Povich'apos;s Astronomy Research Featured in Several Publications

02/25/25

Professor Povich co-authored a paper in the Astrophysical Journal last year on observations made of Tarantula Nebula, also known as 30 Doradus, located about 160,000 light-years away. It’s an ideal place for scientists to study how stars are born. The area is home to the most massive star known, which is about 300 times the mass of our sun. A combination of 23 days of X-ray data from NASA'apos;s Chandra X-ray Observatory, and images from the Hubble Space Telescope and Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array are what make the detailed image (below) possible. The work is eatured on Chandra'apos;s website, CNET, and Space. The team found a candidate for the oldest X-ray pulsar ever detected.
