CPP-MBKU Pre-Pharmacy Pathway Program

Program Overview:

  • The Pre-Pharmacy Pathway program is designed to encourage the most competitive Pre-Pharmacy students at Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) to apply and attend the College of Pharmacy at Marshall B. Ketchum University (MBKU COP). The program allows qualified applicants to have their application reviewed for conditional early acceptance at MBKU COP. In addition, CPP students that receive conditional early acceptance at MBKU COP will have access to mentoring from current pharmacy students and faculty, Open Houses, and Pre-Pharmacy guidance from MBKU COP faculty and staff.
  • Applicants must meet all required criteria to be considered for conditional early acceptance. Students must submit an application and letter of intent to the MBKU COP Office. MBKU COP will review and select qualified applicants for conditional early acceptance in January of each academic year.
  • MBKU COP is committed to accepting a diverse group of qualified individuals from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. All items listed under the Application Eligibility Criteria requirements must be completed by the fall semester of their application year to be eligible forreview.

 Application Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrolled as a student at CPP.
  • Minimum Overall and Science GPA 3.0 at application and maintained throughout time at CPP.
  • Completion of the following course prerequisites with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in each of the following courses:
o One year of General Chemistry (with lab).
o One semester of General Biology (with lab).

Maintenance Criteria After Early Conditional Acceptance Granted:

  • Complete PharmCAS application during the admissions cycle of the year prior to matriculation.
  • Once early conditional acceptance status is granted, remaining pre-requisite courses must be completed within 3 years and prior to matriculation orientation at MBKU COP.
  • Maintain a minimum of 3.0 overall and science GPA throughout the remaining Pre-requisite coursework.
  • Complete the remaining Pre-requisite coursework and achieve a grade of “C” or better in each class.
  • Copies of transcripts must be emailed to MBKU COP (pharmdadmissions@ketchum.edu) at the end of every academic semester for review.

Benefits of Pre-Pharmacy Pathway Program:

  • Early conditional acceptance to MBKU COP, prior to prerequisites completion and graduation.
  •  Peer mentorship from MBKU COP student mentor.
  • Access to MBKU COP events (such as Discover MBKU, MBKU COP Open House, etc.)
  • Direct access to MBKU COP faculty and staff for pre-matriculation preparation prior to orientation.
  • PharmCAS application fee waiver.

Responsibilities of the Student:

  • Completion of the following course prerequisites with a minimum GPA of 3.0 for application to the pathway program:
o One year of General Chemistry (with lab).
o One semester of General Biology (with lab).
  • Submit a Pathway program application and letter of intent to MBKU COP (pharmdadmissions@ketchum.edu) by the Fall semester of the academic year for review.
  • After the application is reviewed by MBKU COP, the student will be invited to visit MBKU Campus for an advising appointment with the Director of Admissions.
  • Once accepted into the pathway program, maintain a minimum overall and science GPA of > 3.0 throughout the remaining Pre-requisite coursework
o Each Pre-requisite course can be repeated no more than 2 times and only the grade of the last attempt is accepted.
o Complete the remaining Pre-requisite coursework and achieve a grade of “C” or better in each class.
o Conditionally accepted students will email copies of their transcripts to MBKU COP (pharmdadmissions@ketchum.edu) at the end of every academic semester for review.
  • Meet 1 to 2 times per year with MBKU COP admissions staff to ensure completion of remaining MBKU COP prerequisites within 3 years prior to matriculation.
  • Complete a PharmCAS application for MBKU COP for the academic year prior to planned matriculation.

Matriculation to MBKU COP:

  • Students who are accepted into this Pre-Pharmacy Program and therefore granted the conditional early acceptance status will need to meet the “Maintenance Criteria” listed above and fulfill responsibilities listed under “Responsibilities of the student”.
  • Students must pass a matricula on interview with MBKU COP, submit the security deposit, complete all pre-requisite course prior to orientation, and remain in good academic and professional standing.
  • A Bachelor degree is not required.

Prerequisites for students seeking conditional early acceptance to Marshall B. Ketchum University:

Degree: Must be classified as a sophomore or equivalent coursework units completed at the time of application to this pathway program.

GPA: At the time of Pathway program application, a minimum 3.0 of overall and science GPA is required and must be maintained prior to MBKU COP matriculation

Coursework (may be taken at CPP or the equivalent course at a community college, university, or accredited online college):

At time of Pathway program application:

·       One year of General Chemistry (with lab)

·       One semester of General Biology (with lab)

Prior to MBKU COP Matriculation:

·       Above courses

·       Remaining MBKU COP Prerequisite courses (see below)

·       Each Pre-requisite course can be repeated no more than 2 times and only the grade of the last attempt is accepted.
