Active Students
What will the STARS Program provide?
- Research and career development workshops, faculty mentoring, peer mentoring, and a community.
- Research stipend of $1,000 per semester during the academic year and $4,000 for the 8-week summer research program.
- Opportunity to present and publish the student’s research publicly through Cal Poly Pomona’s Bronco Scholar and Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Conference.
- Supplies funding for the research project up to $800 for the academic year or up to $400 per semester.
Requirements

3 workshops in Fall/Spring

Two of the required workshops for fall must come from the following: "Narrowing the Topic of Your Research" and "Writing a Literature Review and Abstract" (exact names of workshops may vary)

One workshop must be a PLUTO led workshop (more information on PLUTO mentors below)

1 culturally relevant activity with your cohort

4 meetings with a peer mentor

2 meetings with a program advisor

Attend the Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities (RSCA) Conference in early March

Throughout the semester you might be asked to participate in program surveys. These are also a required component of the program.

The culminating experience will be the dissemination of your research work. CPP hosts Bronco ScholarWorks, an online professional space to showcase exemplary student research such as conference abstracts, undergraduate research papers, and projects, etc. All STARS Scholars are required to submit their research papers to Bronco ScholarWorks and these papers will be curated to produce an annual digital undergraduate research journal. As the semester progresses, an email will be sent with detailed instructions on how to upload your work.

STARS Scholars are required to present their research results at one or more of the following local/regional conferences (oral or poster presentation): The CPP Student Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Conference: RSCA (March); the CPP Summer Creative and Research Symposium: CARS (August); or the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research: SCCUR (November).

Description: As a part of your STARS participation, you are required to attend 3 workshops and 1 culturally relevant activity per semester.
