ASP Peer Mentor and Research Trainee Applications Now Closed
The Achieve Scholars Program recruits students annually. Students must submit a complete Student Application and be submitted according to the timeline below for the application to be considered. Please note that there are two separate applications, either to be a ASP Peer Mentor or a ASP Research Trainee.
The program is not currently accepting students. Please come back at the end of the school year for information. If you have any questions regarding the program, please email Dr. Ever Barraza at edbarraza@cpp.edu.

Appy to be a ASP Peer Mentor
Being part of a high-impact practice, such as peer mentoring, is proven to help students graduate and find successful careers. Student Peer Mentors provide leadership and support systems, become well-versed in campus resources, grow their network, interview faculty researchers, and participate in outreach activities. Peer Mentors gain experiences that can be utilized to build their resumes and CVs which can help with graduate school or job applications.
Key Benefits of Achieve Scholar Mentor include:
- Participants will receive a $200 dollar stipend
- Dedicated faculty advising, graduate school, and career workshops
- Priority registration
Requirements:
- Enroll in a 2 unit Peer Mentoring course fall semester with Dr. Ever Barraza on Fridays from 10 am - 11:50 am.
- Meet with research trainees throughout the term.
- Learn project-based learning and leadership best practices to support peers.

The Achieve Scholars Program is a holistic research program that empowers students from all academic disciplines. Our mission is to equip students with essential research capabilities, mentorship guidance, and academic strategies that will propel them to more advanced, internship, and research opportunities in their field. As an Achieve Scholar, you will be exposed to foundations of research to set you up for more enriching opportunities, programs, and career options.

All scholars are required to participate in a number of program activities and must enroll in a specialized 1-unit Activity course lead by Dr. Ever Barraza.
- Course: Early Career Research Training Course
- Focus: PolyX project centered on student educational issues with the core tenets of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Schedule: Every Friday from 12:00 pm - 1:50 pm (starting week 4)
