Graphic Design Juror: Patrick Fredrickson
Meaningful experiences occur when people interact with engaging environments. Whether the environment is a physical or digital space, or the communication structure of a team or organization, purpose, navigation, and comfort are critical to the success of the environment.
I work with teams to facilitate the discovery, develop the strategy, and implement the production of these spaces and places for public, private, and non-profit organizations.
As a director, designer, and mentor, my work specializes in the production of engaging visitor experiences through the development of storytelling environments and public spaces. As a leader and coach, I work with teams to define their strategies and goals, and to practice and develop the systems that allow them to reach their goals. In my current practice, I am Project Director for Altitude Design Office, President of AIGA Los Angeles, Little League and AYSO coach for Under-12 athletes, Instructor at UCLA Extension, and, most importantly, a father and husband.
I have learned the challenges and successes of design and strategy through my work with Selbert Perkins Design Collaborative, developing wayfinding programs for Civic, Education, and Retail clients; the Autry National Center, leading the in-house team in developing experiences, graphics, media, furniture, and identities for public and gallery environments; and the J. Paul Getty Museum, working with an award winning design team to reinstall the Getty Villa and numerous exhibition and education projects for the museum.
Fine Artist Juror: David B. Jang
David B. Jang is a Los Angeles-based sculptor known for inventive kinetic installations employing hacked consumer electronics and subverted household appliances. He was born in Seoul, South Korea and received a BFA from College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Jang has been shown internationally and nationally: Nagasaki Museum of Fine Arts, Nagasaki, Japan; Pleiades Gallery, New York; Heritage Art Center, Manila, Philippines; Museum of Contemporary Art, MOCA, Los Angeles; Laguna Art Museum; Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles; Palos Verdes Art Center; Los Angeles Art Association; Fort Mason’s Festival Pavilion, San Francisco; Locust Project, Miami; and in the Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles.
Jang has been featured in several arts publications: Art Ltd Magazine; Huffington Post Arts; Korean American Magazine; Art Pulse Magazine; Artillery Magazine; KCET Artbound; Korea Times; Coagula Art Magazine; California Contemporary Art Magazine; Art Week LA; and in the Los Angeles Art Show Catalog.
"Class of 2016" Alumnae Juror: Kathryn Izquierdo-Gallegos
Kathryn Izquierdo-Gallegos is a freelance art director and designer in the LA ad world. She has worked for brands like Honda, Hyundai, Apple, Dole, Google, and Wienerschnitzel. Freelancing has allowed her to get a lot of exposure in a short period of time and she is finally enjoying the winding road.
Kathryn is happy to be coming back full circle, participating as a judge in this year’s 2d3d Student Show. It wasn’t too long ago that she was submitting work herself as a student. She is happy to be supporting her Alma mater, which helped provide a solid foundation for her career to be built on. She is grateful for the multidimensional experience CPP has provided to her then and even now.
