Poster Contest Submission Deadline Sept. 22
Cybersecurity is always changing, with new threats and technologies constantly emerging. This contest aims to help you learn more about cybersecurity by engaging with your peers. By participating in the poster contest, you can improve your communication skills, which will be valuable for future projects, engage with industry leaders, lay a foundation for a future dissertation, or even win a prize. You can team up with one other person to enter the contest. High school and college students are eligible to participate in the competition. Exceptional entries in each category will have the chance to present their work at the Cyber Security and Awareness Fair based on the quality of their abstract and poster drafts. Initial entries include an abstract and poster draft image. Those chosen for the final competition must upload their 5-8 minute presentation on or before October 14 and attend the event on October 17 with their final poster presentation printed and mounted.
Call for Faculty Participation Submission Deadline September 9
The Cybersecurity and Awareness Fair (CSAF) committee invites faculty researching cybersecurity and artificial intelligence to showcase their work by tabling at this year's event on October 17, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Cal Poly Pomona Bronco Student Center. Tabling at CSAF is a dynamic and interactive way to engage people interested in Cybersecurity and AI by discussing one's research with an audience of 650+ attendees. Further, your tabling complements the event's interactive demonstrations presented by Cal Poly Pomona's student clubs, including WiT, SheCodes, FAST, ./Script, and Chaffey College.
All skill levels of cybersecurity research are welcome, but participants must be affiliated with an accredited educational institution. CPP faculty and faculty from other colleges and high schools are encouraged to apply.
Format:
- For those accepted to table, a location will be provided, including a table, chairs, and power.
- Faculty present their findings to a broad audience, including high school students, college students, and industry experts.
- Faculty are responsible for presenting their research findings using posters, digital displays, or handouts to engage with attendees. (The CSAF committee does not reimburse for costs)
- A boxed lunch will be provided.
Submission Form and Deadline:
The CSAF committee will choose faculty research topics based on the entries' quality and qualifications. Their decision is final. The submission deadline is September 9, 2024.

Canvas Courses and Bronco411 Feature Namecoach
Canvas courses and Bronco411 now feature name recordings, Cal Poly Pomona's integration of Namecoach, a service to aid name pronunciation, reduce mistakes, and foster inclusion in our daily interactions. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to add an audio recording, phonetic spelling of their name, and preferred pronouns from any Canvas course as part of their BroncoIdentity. Namecoach profiles can be available outside Canvas for email signatures, social media, or documents when desired.
Microsoft Copilot for CPP
Copilot is available to everyone at Cal Poly Pomona. Copilot uses generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) to provide assistance and boost your creativity, whether summarizing documents, or seeking a quick answer. Watch Streamlining Your Work With Copilot on LinkedIn Learning for an overview.
Information entered into Copilot is restricted to CPP and not shared with the public.
Below are the quick steps to get started with Copilot:
- Select the Copilot version you want to use:
- On the web: Visit the Microsoft Copilot website.
- On the Mac: Users can download Copilot from the App Store.
- On Android and iPhone: Get Copilot from Google Play or the App Store.
- Sign-in to Microsoft Copilot using your CPP credentials just as you would any Microsoft Office 365 application.
Security and Privacy Considerations
GenAI or similar tools may infringe on the privacy and protection of sensitive information, copyrighted or trademarked content, trade secrets, or other licensed content. Once sensitive data has been entered into the training model, in many instances, the model cannot unlearn it and exposes that data.
Cal Poly Pomona is committed to providing a safe and secure environment, which includes the responsible use of GenAI. GenAI or similar tools must not be used in any way that would violate existing CSU or university standards or policies, laws, or applicable regulations.
CSU or CPP sensitive data cannot be used in GenAI or similar tools unless a university contract is in place and the tool is accessed using your Bronco Credentials. Use of Microsoft 365 undergoes regular security reviews by Cal Poly Pomona and the CSU Chancellor's Office.
GenAI or similar tools can be used for publicly available CPP or CSU information, defined as Level 3 information. GenAI or similar tools should not be used to generate output that would be considered non-public.
Report any cybersecurity or privacy concerns to the Chief Information Security Officer (ciso@cpp.edu). View current CPP policies and guidelines.
