Information Technology & Institutional Planning

IT&IP News and Service Notices for August 1

Service Notices

The following describes maintenance and upgrades by the Division of Information Technology and Institutional Planning (IT&IP) over the next seven days.

DUO Enrollment Process Update

Summary: Beginning August 5, 2024, admission applicants, as well as College of Professional and Global Education (CPGE) students, must enable DUO multi-factor authentication (MFA).

What does this mean to me? For staff who support admission applicants or CPGE students, these groups no longer have a grace period to enable DUO MFA; it is now required as part of their application or registration process.

Pearson Revel Maintenance

Summary: Pearson will be performing maintenance of their Revel service beginning Friday, August 2, 7:00 p.m. through Saturday, August 3, 7:00 a.m.

What does this mean to me? All Revel services will be unavailable, including:

  • Revel Registration and Enrollment
  • Revel Course Creation

The following Pearson services will remain available:

  • MathXL
  • MyLab
  • All Mastering Courses
  • Pearson+
  • Learning Catalytics and StatCrunch
Revel courses downloaded to the Pearson+ mobile app before maintenance will remain available.

Phone and Voicemail Maintenance

Summary: IT&IP will perform planned maintenance and software upgrades of our university phone system, including phones, instant messaging, and voicemail communications beginning Friday, August 2, 9:30 p.m. through Saturday, 10:00 p.m.

What does this mean to me? These services will remain available during maintenance.

News

Namecoach

Canvas courses and Bronco411 now feature name recordings, Cal Poly Pomona's integration of Namecoach, a service to aid name pronunciation, reduce mistakes, and foster inclusion in our daily interactions. Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to add an audio recording, phonetic spelling of their name, and preferred pronouns from any Canvas course as part of their BroncoIdentity. Namecoach profiles can be available outside Canvas for email signatures, social media, or documents when desired.
Campus Phishing Attempts Are on The Rise

The Cal Poly Pomona community is currently experiencing targeted phishing emails and text messages. These fraudulent emails and text messages intend to gain access to your campus account and personal information.

Think Before You Click: Never provide your BroncoID, BroncoPassword, or authorize any Duo Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) to another person or unknown request. Only you should have access to your account. Important: CPP staff and faculty will never ask you for your Bronco credentials, an MFA authorization, or to submit a form with this information.

If you feel at risk, change your BroncoPassword immediately by using the "Change/Reset Your Password" link at the bottom of the CPP home page.

Questions: If you have any questions regarding this notice, please contact the IT Service Desk.
