Based on the Windows 11 Project Timeline referenced above, faculty and staff are able to upgrade their IT&IP-managed computer to Windows 11 using Software Center.   From within Software Center, please select "Operating System" from the left menu and install the "Windows 11 23H2 Upgrade".  You may upgrade your computer to Windows 11 at your convenience.  Please note Windows 11 will eventually be a required upgrade for all PC computers.  Please refer to the Windows 11 Project Timeline above for specific dates.

Please contact the IT&IP Service Desk for any questions.

Depending on your computer performance and Internet connection speeds, the Windows 11 upgrade typically takes about 60-120 minutes.  Although you may continue to work on your computer during the upgrade process, it is recommended you minimize your usage and save all open documents.  The process will require at least one reboot.

Please contact the IT&IP Service Desk for any questions.

  1. Back up your data.  The campus encourages the use of Microsoft OneDrive to sync and back up all of your data on a regular basis - but especially before you begin upgrading to Windows 11.
  2. Although you may upgrade your computer to Windows 11 from off-campus, it is recommended you upgrade your campus computer while connected to the campus network environment.
  3. If you are upgrading your computer while on campus, it is recommended you connect to your docking station and use your campus wired network connection.
  4. The Windows 11 upgrade process will perform a self-check, but your computer will need about 60-70GB of free space for the upgrade to complete successfully.
  5. If the Windows 11 upgrade process fails to start or complete, the process should fix itself and leave your computer in a working state.

Computers require a print driver when connecting to a printer.  If the printer is a consumer-based model and/or over 7 years of age, it is likely that the printer manufacturer has not provided a driver for Windows 11.  Therefore, such printers may not work on your Windows 11 computer.

All campus users are encouraged to print to shared network-based printers within their department.  Please open an IT service request or contact your IT technician for assistance in connecting your computer to a shared department printer.  As an alternative, a new replacement printer may be purchased.  Please refer to the recommended printer models.
