Operations Specialist
Note: This classification is not typically used at Cal Poly Pomona.
Classification Standard and Description
Quoting the Standard:
Operation, monitoring and control of multi-system information processing or transmission equipment. Typical systems and equipment may include mainframe consoles, on-line terminals, peripheral equipment, telecommunication systems and devices, and media production and broadcast equipment.
At Cal Poly Pomona:
This classification is not typically used. Current technology does not require the physical attention that was common in the past--changing tapes in drives, for example. Some operations have increased in complexity--job scheduling now requires a much deeper knowledge of software and interactions with other systems. Other operations have been taken over by end-users--media production equipment is operated directly by those responsible for content.
