Information Technology Consultant (ITC)

Classification Standard and Description

Quoting the Standard:

Direct consultative support and training on IT-based systems, primarily in the areas of applications software, multimedia, database resources, and network support; may include moderate hardware consultation and support. Typically has broad knowledge of multiple applications, database systems and sources, and equipment types. Not usually involved in design and systems analysis on an ongoing basis which would require an in-depth knowledge of engineering or programming techniques.

At Cal Poly Pomona:

This employee works directly with end-users on a variety of software applications and systems in order to facilitate effective use of existing resources or introduce new products. Can respond to both broad and in-depth questions about the software and systems used in their area of responsibility, researching and trouble-shooting as needed to find effective resolution.

In some ITC positions, work will encompass a full range of computer-user support, from specifying and ordering a new computer through set-up, delivery, configuration and orientation of the user to the new system, to researching and providing advice on the use of complex and discipline-specific software.

Multimedia ITC positions provide technical, operation and consultative support to faculty, staff, and students who use the media production studios and labs and provide support for staff and students involved in the production and design of multimedia and web applications.

Instruction design ITC positions work with faculty to develop online, hybrid or web-enhanced courses, course web sites, web-based applications and learning materials; conduct related faculty development workshops and create training materials and documentation.
