Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP)

The Faculty Early Retirement Program (FERP) is a program which provides eligible, tenured retired faculty members an opportunity to continue teaching for a maximum of five consecutive years at a time base of fifty percent (50%) post-retirement CSU employment. For additional information, review About the Faculty Early Retirement Program (PDF).

For information on eligibility and how to apply, please view Faculty Affairs Retirement Programs or contact Mary Ferrel, Faculty Affairs Specialist, at luceroferrel@cpp.edu.

FERP Benefits

Medical benefits are covered from your monthly CalPERS retirement check.

You and your family will continue enrollment in the Enhanced Level II dental plan for the duration of the FERP appointment. The dental plan is paid 100% by the CSU.

When the FERP period has ended, you will have the opportunity to choose which dental plan (Enhanced or Basic) you would like to continue with into retirement.

  • The Basic dental plan coverage is 75% coverage for all services with no monthly premium cost for you and your family. The premium is 100% paid by the CSU.
  • The Enhanced Level II plan is an 80% plan with preventative care at no cost (cleanings twice a month); however, there is a monthly premium cost for you and your family.

To compare dental plans and view dental rates, visit CSU Retiree Booklet.

You and your family will be enrolled in the Basic vision plan for the duration of the FERP appointment. The vision plan is paid 100% by the CSU. Vision is paid once a year and it covers you for 12 months. Every year you FERP, your Vision plan renews at the beginning of the semester you teach.

When the FERP period has ended, vision will not automatically continue into retirement. Vision insurance is a voluntary benefit and to continue coverage into retirement, you must request enrollment by completing the VSP Retiree Vision Enrollment Form (PDF). The premiums are listed on the enrollment form. You will have the opportunity to choose from two options: the Basic plan or the Premier plan.

The form will be completed and sent directly to VSP listed on the right-hand side of the form. Once enrolled, the premiums will be deducted from your retirement check. To compare vision plans, visit CSU Retiree Booklet.
