The Fee Waiver Program provides eligible CSU employees or their dependents the opportunity to attend classes at CSU campuses at reduced rates. To learn more about the different fee waiver benefits (Employee or Dependent), please click the applicable button below:
General Information
The fee waiver can be applied to state funded/regular academic session courses. Courses offered via Extended Learning/Open University/Foundation, are not eligible for the fee waiver.

The Internal Revenue Code (IRC) provides several ways to make employer-provided training and educational assistance, such as that provided through the CSU Employee Fee Waiver & Reduction Program, excludable from taxable income.

Imputed income related to participation in the CSU Employee Fee Waiver & Reduction Program, as outlined above, is subject to specific tax rates as follows:
- Federal = 22%
- State of California = 6.6%
- Social Security = 6.2 %
- Medicare = 1.45 %
- Total = 36.25%
The imputed income is reported to the State Controller's Office once each term. The reporting is done after Census for the term, so there is no adverse tax reporting on imputed income when an employee or an employee’s dependent drops courses.
Doctoral Students:
- Employee Fee Waiver Coverage: $5,250 per calendar year
- Spring Tuition: $2,927.11
- Summer tuition $2,927.11
- Total waived: $5,854.22
- Taxable Overage: $604.22; Estimate with holding for Summer $219.03
- Fall Tuition: $2,927.11; total tuition taxable; Estimate with holding $1,061.08
Graduate Students:
- Employee Fee Waiver Coverage: $5,250 per calendar year
- Spring Tuition: $2,927.11
- Fall tuition $2,927.11
- Total waived: $5,854.22
- Taxable Overage: $604.22; Estimate with holding for Fall $219.03
If you or your dependent is attending another CSU; the fee waiver will not be applicable if the program is offered through Extended Learning. If you are unsure about a program, please contact the Fee Waiver Coordinator to determine if program is eligible.
Other CSU Employees - Please complete the required transfer of benefits paperwork at your own campus and submit the approved waiver to hrs-fw@cpp.edu. This transfer must be submitted separately for applicable each term.
