Recently, both BSLA and MLA programs in the Landscape Architecture Program at Cal Poly Pomona were ranked highly by Design Intelligence 2017-2018. The BSLA program is ranked 10th and the MLA program is ranked 11th.

Landscape architecture professor Rennie Tang is on sabbatical in France when President Emmanuel Macron announced nationwide confinement measures on March 17. Residents are allowed to leave their homes only for food and essential tasks, while police and military conduct patrols to enforce the order.

Congratulations to second year MLA student Jose Guadalupe Gutierrez who is recently recognized as 2019 Switzer Environmental Fellow by the Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation. Now through June 30, 2019, with every $50 donation to the Landscape Architecture Annual Fund, the department will send you a custom made sketchbook specially designed by Landscape Architecture Department Students. $100 will get you two...maybe get them for the whole office! The donations for this campaign will help provide ongoing support of department culture- field trips, workshops, lectures, shirts, etc. The value of the sketchbook is $15 and will be deducted from the charitable value of your gift.

The department is pleased to welcome Claire Latanè ASLA, LEED AP, SITES AP to our tenure-track faculty. Claire is a writer, community advocate, and ecological designer. She applies research connecting designed environments with mental health and safety to design school and everyday environments with empathy.

How would you a landscape architect describe their favorite place? MLA student Adrian Tenney revisited a beloved hometown haunt, the Cedarvale Ravine in York, Toronto, for Fall 2018's LA 5771 (Landscape Awareness and Assessment) taught by lecturer Claire Latane. Tenney's illustrated analysis caught the attention of Toronto Field Naturalists, a non-profit member organization of the Ontario Nature province-wide network of conservation groups. Her full report was published in a Jan. 10 "This Place" column.
