    Kelly Wong entered Cal Poly Pomona as an engineering technology major but a lifelong love affair with art will see her graduate with a BFA in visual communication design and double-minors in art history and studio arts, at the top of her class as the valedictorian and 2021 McPhee Scholar for the College of Environmental Design.

    Established in 1971, Ink & Clay is an annual juried competition of printmaking, ink drawing, ceramic ware, clay sculpture, mixed media and installation, utilizing any variety of "ink" or "clay", or combination, as material.

  • 'Layered Histories' tells the story of a neighborhood along LA Metro's new transit line

    The neighborhood was a beloved refuge during her grad school days. It was also there that she met and cultivated a mentorship under artist/community organizer Alonzo Davis, who co-founded with his brother Dale Brockman Davis the Brockman Gallery – the first gallery in Los Angeles dedicated African-American art. Now she gets to depict the community’s complex, colorful and cultural heritage as one of 14 artists whose larger-than-life murals will adorn the eight stations along the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority's (Metro) highly anticipated LAX/Crenshaw Line.

  • Beyond the Classroom: Sowing Seeds for Life

    In Spring 2018, Professor Sooyun Im's ART 352 (Graphic Design II) integrated a service project with the support of Cal Poly Pomona's Center for Community Engagement. The challenge: a branding campaign for La Verne-based nonprofit Sowing Seeds for Life, a food pantry organization that serves 6,000 people every month and annually distributes more than 1 million pounds of food.

    Professor Alison Pearlman visited more than 60 restaurants in the Greater Los Angeles area for May We Suggest: Restaurant Menus and the Art of Persuasion, a delectable exploration of how the design of a physical menu influence our dining experiences, choices and, ultimately, our purchasing choices.

    Design For Good: CPP's first 24-hour design-a-thon

    At the end of this month, Cal Poly Pomona's student chapter of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Arts) is partnering with AIGA-Long Beach to host CPP's first design-a-thon, Design For Good. For 24 hours from Jan. 26 to Jan. 27, participants will design visual materials for two non-profit organizations: the university's Bronco Dreamers Resource Center for undocumented students, and Project Sister Family Services, a rape crisis center in Pomona.

    The Cal Poly Pomona Department of Art has been selected to receive the installation of an active learning classroom through the Active Learning Center (ALC) program, a grant initiative in its third year founded by Steelcase Education. The grant program supports both teachers and students by creating an environment that encourages engagement, collaboration and creativity.
