Spanish Teaching Credential
Our B.A. grants subject matter competence
To become a credentialed teacher of high school Spanish, students must complete a Single Subject Teacher Preparation Program (i.e. Teaching Credential program) after graduating. Most of these programs, offered through university schools of education such as the College of Education at Cal Poly Pomona, can be completed in approximately one and a half years of study beyond the B.A.
To get your Single Subject Credential (for high school level teaching), you need to demonstrate subject matter competence in Spanish. Our major grants automatic subject matter competence. This means that if you are interested in getting a Teaching Credential either immediately after graduation, or keeping that option open for later, you will not have to take the California Subject Examinations for Teachers (CSET).
If this is an option that interests you, please become familiar with all the requirements.
