Student Spotlight: Tracey Lauren Carter
2011 Recipient of the Julian A. McPhee Honor Award for Student Excellence
Tracey Lauren Carter has spent her four years at Cal Poly Pomona being an exceptional leader, motivator and tutor as well as a dedicated finance student. She has been selected as the recipient of the Julian A. McPhee Honor Award based on her academic performance and her outstanding contributions to the university and community.
She has made the Dean’s List every quarter and has gained admittance into several international and national honor societies such as Alpha Lambda Delta Academic Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society and served as president of the business honors society, Beta Gamma Sigma. She will also graduate with summa cum laude honors, the highest honors available to college graduates.
Tracey has been active in Cal Poly Pomona’s Greek community, serving as president and treasurer of the Greek honor society, Order of Omega. She also has been named “Most Inspirational Sister” in her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, through her roles as treasurer and scholastics chair. She received the Zeta Tau Alpha Scholastic Achievement Scholarship two years in a row for her leadership roles and academic distinction.
Tracey is a member of the Cal Poly Pomona chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) and was among a small group selected to participate in a national case competition. Tracey captained the competition’s financial analysis and managed a $20 million budget. The Cal Poly Pomona team received an honorable mention award for its efforts at AMA’s international collegiate conference in New Orleans. Tracey now works with AMA and the College of Business Administration on “The Intern” as liaison and judge.
As a result of Tracey’s academic excellence as well as her dedication and service to many Cal Poly Pomona clubs and organizations, she was awarded the President’s Council Scholarship in 2010.
Tracey is currently an intern at Scottrade Financial Services where she will continue her career after graduation. She will return to school in the fall to her earn her MBA in finance at Cal State Fullerton’s Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. Tracey has enjoyed her time at Cal Poly Pomona and will use her experiences and education to pursue her goal of becoming a chief financial officer in the future.
