Dr. Mehrdad Koohikamali is an Assistant Professor of the Computer Information Systems department at Cal Poly Pomona. He received a B.S. in Geomatics engineering from University of Tabriz, Iran, an M.S. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from University of Tehran, an M.S. in Applied GIS and a Ph.D. in Information Systems from University of North Texas. His expertise includes location analytics and GIS, big data analytics, social media analytics, and information privacy. He teaches location analytics, data mining, social media and text mining, and big data technology at both graduate and undergraduate levels. Dr. Koohikamali is the Co-director of Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics, where he led many projects for companies such as Boeing and Meta. He also has recently partnered with the local government and international organizations to build a digital twin center for the College of Business Administration. He has more than 10 years of work experience in various areas of GIS as consultant, coordinator, analyst, programmer, administrator, and manager. His research appeared in journals such as Decision Support Systems, Computers in Human Behavior, Informing Science, Information Technology and People, and Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing.
