GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Day - "Inequality and the Role of GIS"
The College’s Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics is pleased to celebrate, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Day “Inequality and the Role of GIS”. GIS Day is a worldwide celebration of GIS, and was first observed in 1999. The College of Business Administration Dean Dr. Erik Rolland will present welcome and opening remarks, and the event will feature presentations by Kendrick Faison, CEO of SpatialGIS, Dafna Golden, Professor of Geography, Mt. San Antonio College, and Chloe Teraslinna, Racial Equity Hub & Professional Services Lead from ESRI. More information about GIS Day is at gisday.com. Location Intelligence with GIS 2nd Session
The College’s Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics is pleased to offer the second workshop in our workshop series “Location Intelligence with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)”. The series introduces participants to business applications of GIS, along with hands-on learning using leading edge GIS tools.
Everyone is welcome to attend the presentations. The session format will consist of a presentation followed by hands-on learning activities in small breakout rooms. Registered workshop attendees seeking the certificate must attend both sessions.

The Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics is pleased to offer a workshop series “Location Intelligence with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)”. The series will introduce participants to business applications of GIS, along with hands-on learning using leading edge GIS tools.
Learn to create GIS Dashboards and Make Predictive Models and receive a certificate for successful completion!
The series consists of two sessions on Oct 6 and Oct 27 (7 to 8:50 pm on each day) and will be offered via Zoom. The session format will consist of a presentation followed by hands-on learning activities in small breakout rooms.
Student Project Showcased at College of Business RSCA (Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities) Showcase 2021
Students working on a Singelyn Center project with the City of Pomona Homeless Programs showcased their project at the College of Business RSCA Showcase 2021. They analyzed point-in-time homeless counts data, along with key demographics using ArcGIS mapping and geocoding, to identify areas in Pomona most in need of resources and services.

Research Presentation April 2021
The Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics and Real Estate Association hosted a featured presentation by Prof. Anthony Orlando of the FRL Department. Prof. Orlando spotlighted research from his upcoming book, “Keeping Races in Their Places: The Dividing Lines That Shaped the American City” to be published later this year by Routledge.
Student Project Showcased at College of Business RSCA (Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities) Showcase 2020
Students working on a Singelyn Center project with the appraisal management company PCV Murcor showcased their project at the College of Business RSCA Showcase 2020. Using data from PCV and from Zillow’s Assessor and Real Estate Database, they analyzed the company’s position in different geographic areas. In addition, they gained insights on key factors impacting appraisals.

Visual Analytics Lab Opening November 2019
The Singelyn Center for Innovative Analytics opened its visual analytics lab, providing a dedicated space for students to work with faculty and professionals using industry-level tools and programs, including new visualization technology and software, interactive displays, and collaborative workspaces.

What’s the big deal about ‘Stories’ in Analytics? April 19, 2019

If you’ve read trade magazines and websites about data analytics, you’ve probably seen a lot of attention given to “data driven story telling”, “letting the data tell the story” or “Story telling with data”. Even Tableau has a tab at the lower right for creating a “New Story”.

Students are able to learn a wide variety of skills in various classes but rarely have the chance to use all they have learned on one project. However, the hackathon was a unique chance for our team to use an array of classroom skills in conjunction to tackle a single problem. Working closely with my team members in a project outside of class or a club was a much different dynamic than what I had experienced before. The hackathon gave our team broad space in which to build our predictive policing solution. Thanks to the open-ended nature of the Hackathon I was able to learn new strategies and technologies that peaked my individual interest and apply them for the benefit of the team. Most notable was the integration of TabPy, an open source server, that allows Tableau to execute and display Python code within the visualization software.
