Application Instructions

Summer 2025 Application Information

The Summer 2025 program will run from June 1, 2025 - August 9, 2025.
Applications are due February 15, 2025.
Applications will be collected online beginning in Fall 2024 though the NSF ETAP (Education and Training Application) website.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the REU program, students must

  • be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. permanent residents;
  • be currently enrolled (part-time or full-time) in a degree program leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree;
  • plan to be enrolled (part-time or full-time) in the fall following the summer REU program in a degree program leading to a baccalaureate or associate degree;
  • have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale); and
  • have completed a multivariable calculus ("Calculus 3") course.

Application Materials

The following items are required as part of the online application:

  • a personal statement (not to exceed two pages using single spacing, 1 inch margins, and 12 point font) detailing relevant coursework, programming experience, research experience, motivation and expectations for the REU program, and post-baccalaureate plans;
  • unofficial undergraduate transcript(s);
  • two letters of recommendation; and
  • completion of a set of online short-answer questions providing information about expertise in various programming languages, class standing, major, GPA, and preferred REU project topic.
