NSF REU: Computational and Applied Mathematics Program

Welcome

The main goal of this REU program at Cal Poly Pomona is to provide a diverse group of undergraduate students the opportunity to conduct collaborative research in computational and applied mathematics.  A 10-week program will be offered in each of the summers of 2025, 2026, and 2027 where groups of students will be paired with a faculty mentor to explore the use of computation in mathematical areas such as optimization, graph theory, Gaussian processes, and spectral analysis.  The mentor will guide their group from an initial study of foundational material to the implementation, development, and presentation of computational solution approaches.  A series of workshops, seminars, and professional development activities will extend the students' skill sets and will build interpersonal relationships within each cohort.  Upon completion of the program, the students will have gained extensive experience in computational and applied mathematics, equipping them to be successful in graduate programs or as they join the STEM workforce.

Students selected to participate in the program will receive

  • $7000 stipend
  • on-campus housing
  • on-campus food plan
  • relocation support to and from Cal Poly Pomona
  • support for conference travel
