About AI at CPP

ℹ️ Important Note: This guide does not represent any official policy under consideration by governing bodies like the Academic Senate. CAFE's role is to provide faculty support and promote pedagogical innovation. We encourage open dialogue and collaboration as we explore the responsible use of gAI to improve the educational experience for both faculty and students.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (gAI) in the Classroom: A Guide for Faculty

CAFE recognizes the emergence of gAI tools and their potential impact on teaching and learning. While no official university policy regarding gAI exists yet, this guide aims to address common faculty concerns and explore its potential benefits.

Teaching Concerns:

  • Academic Integrity: Unapproved use of gAI to complete assignments can compromise learning and constitute plagiarism.
  • Over-reliance on gAI: Students may become overly reliant on gAI, hindering their development of critical thinking and research skills.
  • Accuracy and Bias: gAI outputs can be inaccurate or biased, requiring careful evaluation and fact-checking.

Positive Uses of gAI:

  • Enhanced Writing and Research: gAI can help students brainstorm ideas, overcome writer's block, and access diverse sources for research.
  • Differentiated Instruction: gAI can provide personalized support to students, tailoring content and practice to their needs.
  • Increased Efficiency: gAI can automate repetitive tasks, freeing up faculty time for more in-depth student interaction.

How CAFE Can Help:

CAFE is here to support faculty in navigating the gAI landscape. We offer:

  • Workshops on gAI for Teaching and Learning: Learn about effective gAI tools and strategies for classroom integration.
  • Guidance on Course Development: Explore how gAI can enhance learning objectives and assessment methods.
  • Individualized Consultations: Discuss your specific concerns and develop strategies for gAI use in your courses.
