Early Career: First Six Years

Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP)

The CSU AGEP Alliance for Diversity & Strengths of STEM Faculty is a collaborative project of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona, CSU Dominguez Hills and Fresno State. We work collaboratively to develop, implement, study, evaluating, disseminating and scaling an Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) Alliance Model. Our goal is to improve faculty retention and promotion and tenure for early-career STEM faculty at CSU campuses.

Faculty Success Program

Tenure-Track Faculty Success Program (summer course design, orientation, and affinity groups)

New tenure-track faculty success begins with the remote summer Course Design experience. This program provides faculty with connection to other new faculty and initiates and fosters discussions on scholarship of effective teaching and learning at the university level. This program supports new faculty to create courses informed by knowledge of Cal Poly Pomona’s students, mission, and values. A three-day in-person orientation is provided for new tenure-track faculty the week before their first semester begins.

New tenure track faculty affinity groups provide a caring and experienced faculty mentor to small groups of the newest tenure track faculty members for their first and second years at CPP. Group members and mentors support each other and provide respectful camaraderie as they begin their faculty career at CPP.

Provost Fellows for New Faculty Success, Erica Morales (Associate Professor, Sociology) and Amy Dao (Assistant Professor, Geography & Anthropology) currently lead these efforts.
