Financial Resources - Basic Needs Grant
Program Overview
Basic Needs Grants support student success by providing a one-time grant of usually $500 to assist with an unforeseen emergency, crisis or catastrophic event. The grant is not intended to be used for tuition and fees or other school-related expenses such as textbooks, class supplies, parking permits, or laptops/technology.
Eligibility
- Be an enrolled student during the current academic year. Open university students are not eligible.
- Be able to demonstrate urgent financial need with supporting documentation.
- Experience an unforeseen emergency/crisis that impacts student success such as:
- Displacement/homeless: living in your car, living in motel/hotel, shelter, streets or temporarily staying with friends or family
- An uninsured medical or dental emergency
- Victim of a crime or accident
- Remain committed to working on an action plan with a staff member.
- Please note: If you are a recipient of the Middle Class Scholarship (MCS), a Case Manager will ask you to speak to Financial Aid as the Basic Needs Grant may affect your financial aid.
Review Process
- Once submitted, you'll receive a confirmation message.
- Your application will be assigned to a case manager who will reach out to schedule a 20-30 minute intake meeting. This meeting allows us to be more familiar with your situation and collect any additional info.
- Most students are required to submit verification documents to their assigned case manager with Bronco ID # (ex. 012345678).
- Following your intake meeting, you will be contacted via email about the status of your grant application.
- The process can take up to 3 weeks after documents have been submitted and you've met with a case manager.

FAQ's
No. Students are only eligible to apply for the term they are currently enrolled in.
Summer 2024: If you are not enrolled in the summer term, you are not eligible for the basic needs grant. If you would like to speak with a case manager regarding eligibility, please contact the Care Center.
Grants are processed through Financial Aid. Once Financial Aid disburses your basic needs grant, you should receive your funds within a few business days if you are enrolled in direct deposit with financial aid (depending on your bank, it could be sooner or later).
If you are not enrolled in direct deposit, a check will be mailed to the address you have on file on Bronco Direct.
