Refer a Student of Concern
When to Submit a Referral
If a staff, faculty, or student perceives unusual, concerning or indicative of distress then a referral should be submitted:
- Lack of responsiveness
- Food/housing insecurities
- Financial stressors
- Clothing assistance
- Excessive absenteeism
- Classroom disruptions
- Clear signs of distress
- Erratic behavior
- Observed self-injurious behavior
- Alienation/isolation from others
- Violent or aggressive behavior
- Threatening words or actions
- Communications (written or verbal) that convey clear intentions to harm self or others
- Extreme/sudden changes in behavior
The Care Center team works alongside faculty, staff, and students to address student behavior requiring multiple responses while at the same time balancing the needs of the student with those of the greater Cal Poly Pomona community.
What Happens After a Referral is Submitted
- Care Center staff may contact the individual who filed the referral to discuss the concern or obtain additional information.
- The referral will be reviewed and assessed by staff members.
- Student will receive an outreach email with an invite to meet with a staff member.
- Student will meet with a Care Center staff member.
- In collaboration with the student, a plan will be developed.
