General Tour Information

Our own interpreters will lead walking tours with interactive activity stations through three of the following learning centers:

  • Rain Bird Rainforest
  • Rain Bird BioTrek Ethnobotany Learning Center and Garden
  • Mesozoic Garden and Learning Center

Tours are conducted rain or shine. Please advise students to dress appropriately (good shoes and clothes for walking).  To schedule an in-person visit, please complete the Group Tour Reservation Form.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost per student for in-person tours is $8. Chaperones and parents are free. We require a minimum payment of $240 (equivalent to 30 students) for all groups. We accept checks made payable to BioTrek. Payment can be brought to campus on day of tour.

Stipends are available for schools to partially offset the cost of visiting BioTrek on a field trip.  The funds can offset the cost of transportation. The application period for funding will begin in August 2021. There are limited funds so please apply early. For more information, please contact Dr. Edward Bobich at biotrek@cpp.edu.

  • California native plants and how the Gabrielino-Tongva native people use them (acorn grinding activity and brush making with dried yucca)
  • California biomes and their unique characteristics
  • Rainforest plants and their uses – cocoa butter demonstration, chocolate midge pollination, caiman talk
  • The Mesozoic – “Age of the Dinos” and plants that existed during that time that still exist today (solar panel activity)
  • Our animal station allows students to get an up close and personal with some of our reptiles
