"To first-generation college students, I would like to tell you to get involved. Join clubs, volunteer, participate in events. Use any resources available to you. Get to know your classmates and join study groups. Don't be afraid to ask questions, email your professors and take advantage of their office hours. Also, remember to take the time to enjoy your college experience - it goes by fast. I'm proud to be a first-generation college student because I know that my experience can help inspire a diverse group of people. I am not a traditional transfer student. I am a single parent with two kids who needs to work to provide for her family. I'm leading by example for my kids and my siblings. Since I'm a little older, I feel that my educational journey can motivate those that are my age to go back to school. If I can do it, you can do it. It's never too late. "
