Service Opportunities

The Academic Senate Elections and Procedures Committee is seeking nominations for the University RTP Committee (URTPC) from the following constituencies:

  • Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture (term ending 2025)
  • College of Environmental Design (term ending 2027)

Faculty interested in serving on the URTPC must be tenured and have the rank of professor per section 5 of policy 1328 (PDF) which governs the University RTP Committee.  Members of the URTPC are ineligible to serve on department or college RTP committees.

The Academic Senate is recruiting for the following vacancies on the Undergraduate Research Faculty Advisory Council (URFAC):

  • College of Environmental Design – One vacancy, term ends 2025
  • Library – Two (2) vacancies with terms ending in 2025 and 2026

For more information on the role of URFAC, please see AS-2399-112/AA, Creation of URFAC to Increase Alignment with Teacher-Scholar Model (PDF), which created the Undergraduate Research Faculty Advisory Council (URFAC).  Per AS-2399-112/AA, members of URFAC shall be full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty.

The Academic Senate is recruiting a faculty representative from the Collins College of Hospitality Management for the Special Projects for Improving the Classroom Experience (SPICE) Committee for a term ending in 2027.

The objective of the SPICE Committee is to allocate funds for equipment modernization and instructional innovation that provide added value to the educational experiences of students.

The focus of the equipment modernization funding shall be to replace and modernize classroom (including studio space and laboratory) equipment that directly benefits students.

The focus of instructional innovation funding shall be on instructional approaches, designed for the physical or virtual classroom, that lead to greater student learning.

The SPICE program is funded through the Student Success Fee, with the purpose of supporting faculty in efforts to improve the learning environment for Cal Poly Pomona students.

Classroom Modernization

Classroom Modernization proposals support significant upgrades or renovations of classroom or lab space, beyond regular maintenance. 

Instructional Innovation

Instructional Innovation proposals support individual faculty or groups of faculty in a variety of ways to create and implement innovative teaching methods, or to implement teaching methods which are well-proven but require a significant amount of support.

 Full-time tenured faculty, tenure track faculty, full-time lecturers with an annual contract, and FERP faculty with a 0.5 base for two semesters are eligible to serve.

The Academic Senate is recruiting for one (1) faculty member from each of the following constituencies to serve on the established Provost’s Awards Selection Committee (see Policy 1212 (PDF) for additional details): 

  • College of Business Administration (term ends 2026)
  • College of Education and Integrative Studies (term ends 2025)
  • College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (term ends 2026)
  • Collins College of Hospitality Management (term ends 2025)
  • College of Engineering (term ends 2026)
  • Library/Related Areas (term ends in 2025)

The meeting schedule will be based on the committee members’ availability.  

This committee will select the outstanding faculty for three different awards: The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Service, and the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Scholarly and Creative Activities.  

According to the Academic Senate Constitution, Article II, Section 3 (G), unit 3 representation on University Committees should only be assigned by the Senate.  Eligible unit 3 members are probationary and tenured faculty, full-time lecturers, librarians, counselor faculty, coaches, and FERP faculty with a 0.5 base for two semesters.

The Academic Senate is recruiting for a total of four faculty members from any of the following colleges for the Program Review Committee (PRC) for a two- or three-year appointment:

  • College of Environmental Design
  • University Library
  • College of Engineering
  • Don B. Huntley College of Agriculture

The Program Review Committee (PRC) is an advisory body to the Academic Senate and the Office of Assessment and Program Review. Members provide feedback to assigned academic programs on matters related to the substantive elements of Cal Poly Pomona’s program review with emphasis on institutional-specific issues not addressed by external reviewers. The Program Review Committee also provides feedback and suggests improvements to the Office of Assessment and Program Review concerning the program review process, strengthening the relationship between the two entities to maintain the integrity, significance, and relevance of the program review.

 The PRC meets virtually on one Friday of every month.

 Eligibility for service:

  • Full-time tenured faculty, tenure track faculty;
  • Experience with program review, accreditation, and/or assessment;

 Faculty may receive stipends based on the type of program review and role performed.

The Academic Senate Elections and Procedures Committee is seeking nominations for one (1) CSU Academic Senator. The ASCSU meets in Long Beach several times a year to discuss and make recommendations to the Trustees about system-wide matters of shared governance. Our campus has two senate seats with three (3) year terms and one (1) seat is available for a term ending in 2026. The College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences is not eligible since that constituency is already represented on the CSU Academic Senate.

The Academic Senate is governed by Policy 121, Academic Senate Constitution (PDF), and Policy 122, Academic Senate Bylaws (PDF).

The CSU Academic Senate conducts two-day plenary sessions plus committee meetings five times a year at the Chancellor’s Office in Long Beach (these meetings are sometimes hybrid). The meetings are in September, November, January, March, and May. As a CSU Academic Senator, you would be required to attend these meetings, as well as be a member of the campus Academic Senate. Please note that Academic Senators must be able to meet every Wednesday from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. for senate and committee meetings.  The newly elected senator will be seated at the October 16, 2024 Academic Senate Meeting. 

Tenure-track faculty (tenured and probationary appointed on an annual basis--two academic semesters), full-time lecturers appointed on an annual basis,  librarians and academic specialists are eligible to serve.

The Academic Senate is recruiting for one representative from the following constituencies for the University Writing Committee (UWC):

  • Collins College of Hospitality Management – term ends 2025
  • College of Environmental Design – term ends 2025
  • College of Science – term ends 2026 

The UWC has been formed to address EO 665, GWAR Policy Update.  Policy 1436 (PDF) has been updated accordingly and per the policy, the UWC shall consist of a Faculty Director or Coordinator with expertise in “Writing in the Disciplines” pedagogy who will serve as committee chair, the Composition Coordinator, one representative from each college, the University Library, a representative from the Office of Academic Programs, and a representative from the Office of Assessment and Program Review. It is recommended the University Writing Center Coordinator be included as well.

Eligible unit 3 members are probationary and tenured faculty, temporary faculty (full-time lecturers), librarians, counselor faculty, coaches, and FERP faculty with a 0.5 base for two semesters.

The Executive Committee of the Academic Senate is recruiting members for the 2024-2025 Academic Senate standing committees.  At this time all vacancies are “at-large” and any constituency is welcome to volunteer.  The Bylaws of the Academic Senate (PDF) provide information on the standing committees. Standing Committees meet Wednesdays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. except for Wednesday when Academic Senate meetings are scheduled. The members of the standing committees shall be appointed by the Executive Committee and serve a one-year term.   

The following committee vacancies are available:

  • Academic Affairs - 2 vacancies
  • Academic Programs - 2 vacancies
  • Elections and Procedures - 1 vacancies
  • Faculty Affairs - 2 vacancies
