MDC Family Stories
Our daughter has been attending Cal Poly Pomona’s Motor Development Clinic since August 2022. Talisa loves coming to sessions and seeing friends, while developing her motor and physical skill set. All MDC teachers work incredibly hard in activity engagement, with consistent parent communication if their child is struggling during the session. By far, Talisa’s favorite session is summer camp. Children and young teens are placed into larger teams before participating in group activities. Her favorite outdoor activity was an obstacle course that turned into water play, with campers trying to get their counselors soaked with water balloons. And of course, swim time is the most discussed topic amongst all campers during break times. The Motor Development Clinic is much more than a place where children increase their motor skill set. It’s a place where children are able to explore which activities peak their interest and tell you that they want to play basketball as you drive home. It’s where teachers care enough to learn a way to communicate with your child, whether learning how to use an AAC device or ASL. It’s a place where Talisa has so many people excited to watch her grow and cheer her on as she makes progress at sessions and in her personal life. Our daughter struggled so much in all motor development categories as she first started attending MDC sessions. Talisa can now independently hold crayons and paint brushes on her own in age-appropriate grip, she is running and moving arms to keep her balance, and most recently, she is able to kick her own legs and enjoy swings during school recess. By attending weekly MDC sessions, Talisa has made advanced progress where she now attends general education Kindergarten with an aide, and has A.P.E. goals set at a First-grade level.
MDC gives our daughter the opportunity to develop and grow as the leader she is destined to be.
We look forward to meeting you and your child soon.
