Subject: Increasing In-Person Instruction for Fall Semester
Dear Colleagues,
Resilience and flexibility continue to serve as touchstones for our university-wide response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The joint message recently sent out by Academic Affairs and Administrative Affairs explained the decision by Cal/OSHA to lift some restrictions in workspaces. This update means that we can plan for a full return of our faculty and staff in August. Therefore, we can accelerate the amount of in-person instruction planned for the fall semester. More specifically:
- From now until the start of the fall semester, any new course sections added to the schedule will be either in-person or hybrid.
- For fall course sections already scheduled with in-person components, we will be working with the colleges and departments to add students to these courses via waitlists in accordance with usual levels of enrollment in these courses.
- Whether or not enrollment in a specific section increases, we ask faculty teaching hybrid courses, with in-person components, to increase the number of in-person meetings in the course.
- As always, we will continue to follow the guidelines set by federal, state, and county officials as well as the CSU Chancellor’s Office.
As a polytechnic university with a commitment to student success and offering rich experiential learning experiences, it is imperative that our students are actively engaged in learning by doing.
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the success of your students and your university. Additional communications on this matter are forthcoming, and I encourage faculty to consult with their deans and department chairs with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Sylvia A. Alva, Ph.D.
