Understand the complex relationship between the past and contemporary social, political and cultural issues. With the General History option, you'll have the freedom to explore your interests or complement your degree with a minor.
The Polytechnic Approach
Gain insights into the study and practice of history, take broad survey courses of critical periods and lay the foundation for upper-division studies. Then, dive into the exciting world of historical theory, examining different approaches to the field of history. With our well-rounded approach, you will select from courses spanning international regions and periods, the US and Europe, and topical histories including sport and leisure, environmental and public history. Whether you're interested in law, research, museum studies or interdisciplinary fields, you will have the tools to pursue your dream career.

Courses
The General History option offers a flexible curriculum ideal for students aiming for careers outside of secondary education. This option is suited for those pursuing pre-professional paths in law, business, civil service, or further academic study. It allows you to choose from a wide range of general education courses and electives, providing a strong foundation for careers involving research, analysis, and communication, such as law, foreign service, and various public or private sector roles.
