Drones 🤝 CPP Vineyards
Check out this student research project, where drones use machine learning to fly across CPP's vineyards and collect data. The goal is to help growers to use the correct amount of pesticides to help fight powdery mildew that can appear on their plants. 🍇 🌱
The researchers hope future use of this tech would include both drone and ground robots in a closed loop automation, which would save growers time, increase efficiency, and prevent exposure to pesticides. 🤖
This cross-department project is a collaboration between @cppengineering, @cpp_science, and @huntleycollegeofagriculture and is one of many student research projects on campus. On a typical day, you’ll find Richard Ruiz on a dairy farm, doing pregnancy diagnoses, performing surgeries, and treating his sick patients -- cows.
Ruiz (‘18, animal science) first began his dive into veterinary medicines after high school where he worked at a small animal clinic. This inspired him to enroll in CPP’s animal science classes, where he began learning and working with large animals.
Post vet school, he now works at Bear Mountain Veterinary Associates working with cows, sheep, goats, and pigs. 🐄🐑🐏🐖
