  • On a typical day, you’ll find Richard Ruiz on a dairy farm, doing pregnancy diagnoses, performing surgeries, and treating his sick patients -- cows.

Ruiz (‘18, animal science) first began his dive into veterinary medicines after high school where he worked at a small animal clinic. This inspired him to enroll in CPP’s animal science classes, where he began learning and working with large animals.

Post vet school, he now works at Bear Mountain Veterinary Associates working with cows, sheep, goats, and pigs. 🐄🐑🐏🐖

  • For the 18th consecutive year, CPP will prompt its community to pull together and read the same book. 📖

The Common Read for 2024-25 is Michelle Zauner’s “Crying in H-Mart.” A singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Zauner writes about growing up as one of a few Asian Americans at her school in Oregon and her mother’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

The book was nominated by CPP senior coordinator of Academic Support & Engagement, Jacqueline Naranjo (pictured). She recommended the book in part because its themes are particularly resonant in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
