Cal Poly Pomona Pepperzania Sale Begins April 19

Need to add a spicy kick for that burrito or those chicken wings? Celebrate spring with a burst of color and spice. The annual Pepperzania sale starts Saturday, April 19, at the Farm Store.
Plants span a range of sweet and hot pepper plants, including specialty, jalapenos, Hatch, ancho, poblano/mole, serrano, and bell pepper plants.
The Farm Store will have varieties like Amazing 2 Cayenne, Sweet Cayenne, Thai Hot, Big Jim, Jalapeno Gigante, Aji Amarillo (Peru), Aji Panca (Peru), Peri-Peri (Portuguese-African), Jimmy Nardello Italian, Wiri Wiri (Guyana), Bell Red Beauty, and Bell California Wonder. Asian peppers include Cayenne Golden, Chinese Five Color, Mellow Star, Thai Hot and Shishito.
New this year is the Count Dracula pepper. The plant has black leaves, purple flowers and red peppers once they are ripened.
Another colorful variety is the Roumanian Rainbow pepper, which starts as ivory and then turns persimmon to orange and finally red when mature.
In May, the Ultimate Pepper Plant Sale will bring the heat with more than 60 varieties of super-hot peppers, including some of the world’s hottest such as Carolina Reapers, Ghost Peppers and Trinidad Scorpions.
All plants are grown by Cal Poly Pomona students majoring in plant science. Proceeds benefit the plant science program and the students. A list of pepper plants available will be posted on the Cal Poly Pomona Nursery website before the sale.
In addition to the peppers, the nursery also will have a grand array of spring plants to jump start the home garden, including tomatoes, herbs, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, beans, lettuce, strawberries, dragon fruit and more.
